Greiner Bio-One Webinar

Basics in Eukaryotic Cell Culture

Presented By Dr. Thomas Schreiber

The culture of immortalized or primary cells is usually necessary at a certain stage in most scientific projects. Although the culture of immortalized cell lines has been established for more than 60 years, cell culture novices may find it difficult to obtain an overview of existing methods, possibilities and resources. Even experienced researchers may not necessarily be aware of readily available information to assist the cell culture lab. Therefore, the aim of this webinar is to provide a 45 minute review of important aspects related to eukaryotic cell culture.

Covered topics will include:

  • Essentials of cell biology

  • Thawing and freezing of cells

  • Choice of the optimal culture substrate

  • Routine and special methods

  • Contaminations

  • Resources for obtaining cells and cell culture protocols

Dr. Thomas Schreiber studied biochemistry at the University of Tuebingen, Germany and at the University of Toronto, Canada. During his PhD at Tuebingen University Medical School, he gained expert knowledge in cell biology and in the interactions of stem cells with their microenvironment. As a postdoctoral fellow at the Natural and Medical Sciences Institute in Reutlingen, Germany, he focused on applied R&D in the fields of proteomics and bioanalytics. At Greiner Bio-One, Dr. Schreiber is now responsible for the development of innovative cell culture products.
